How To Make Your Gifts To A Content Creator Go The Farthest:

You see my friends, not all platforms are created equal, and so each dollar you give to your favorite content creator varies in how far it goes. Content creators/performers also get a different portion of money depending on where they stream/show their work. This page is to enlighten you with what is generally insider knowledge to either help you give most effectively or know what platform is the best one for you to use to broadcast your games or present your work.

  • TWITCH takes FIFTY PERCENT of the money from your subscription (sub) to a channel and the same is true when you gift a sub. To be clear, I am NOT at all discouraging subbing, only arming you with knowledge you (and your favorite performer(s) perhaps) may find useful. Also, when you give a sub that costs $5.00 (for a 1-month subscription), that nets only $2.50 to the channel in question. As to BITS, they presently cost $1.40 for 100 bits, but when you give a channel 100 bits, that channel only earns $1.00 (Bezos keeps the other $0.40, don’t you just love making the richest man in the world even richer?).

  • YOUTUBE takes THIRTY PERCENT of the money from your YouTube Channel Membership at all levels, with SEVENTY PERCENT going to the channel itself (i.e., the content creators). YouTube SUPER-CHATS & SUPER-THANKS also pay just SEVENTY-PERCENT to the channel/content creator and THIRTY-PERCENT to themselves.

  • PATREON takes just EIGHT PERCENT of the money from your monthly subscription, giving the true majority of your money (NINETY-TWO PERCENT) to the Patreon Channel/Content Creator in question. It is the best major platform to use to regularly give money to your favorite performer/content creator/channel.

  • KO-FI states that they don’t charge the creator you donate to a fee, at least at their basic (free) level. We have insufficient corroborated information to give you a solid judgement on Ko-Fi at this time. However, Ko-Fi (in my personal experience) appears to be an efficient method to raise funds for smaller accounts & part-time content creators, or just for members of the #TTRPG_Family who need to raise a targeted amount of money quickly for a small-to-moderate financial emergency.

  • At this time, we don’t have information on podcast-specific subscription services and their reimbursement rates. If you run a podcast and can provide information about your experiences and financial policies of your platform, please feel free to share that with us (UNLESS sharing such information could be considered a violation of your contract!).

  • Also at the present time, we do not have specific information on how much affiliate status with Amazon.com or other companies pay-out to creators based on what traffic you or your site sends them, but if we come across this information in the future we will certainly share it here if it can be verified & it is legal to do so.

  • We’ve also been made aware of another platform, which seems designed to primarily for live-streamers to handle and equally divide tips. The platform, Pally, apparently relies on a voluntary transaction fee when you tip or donate through it (which you can customize) that goes towards keeping the Pally team paid. I’m not a business professional, but it will be interesting to see how this platform performs in the long-term, at least to us! DratAndCatSuggest is withholding a judgement on Pally at this time (while we gather more data and listen to more of you!).

Based on the information we have gathered here so far, we believe Patreon membership is the best method for you to effectively & regularly support your favorite streamers, content creators, performers, & cosplay artists. Patreon takes a regular amount of money from your designated account (bank, credit card, etc.), transfers the bulk (92%) of that money to anyone you subscribe to & at the level you set individually for each. Patreon also enables creators to offer bonus content, Discord benefits, after-shows, and other various perks for different levels of contribution.
