“Alien The Roleplaying Game Destroyer of Worlds”
By Talia Heart
Authors Notes: “Alien The Roleplaying Game Destroyer of Worlds” is a cinematic adventure that should take three game sessions to complete. For this module you will need the “Alien The Roleplaying Game” core rulebook (or at a minimum, the rules book from the Alien RPG Starter Set) to run. This adventure takes place after the events of “Chariot of The Gods” (included in “Alien The RPG Starter Set”, sold separately by Free League Publishing) but before the events of “The Frontier Wars” campaign featured in “Alien The RPG: Colonial Marines Operations Manual” and draws material from all over the “Alien” expanded universe (while expanding on that lore and providing a fun and original play experience).
“Alien The RPG: Destroyer of Worlds” includes all you need to run a complete cinematic adventure: seven pre-generated player characters with portraits, a two-sided poster-sized map of Ariarcus Colony and Fort Nebraska (both to scale in a black, green, and white “Alien” theme), two more smaller maps (also to scale in black, green, and white), a set of Story Cards, a set of Personal Agenda cards (to assist players), and the 88-Page scenario book which is entirely for Game Mother eyes only. The scenario book includes some fully-fleshed out NPCs, additional NPCs, maps, diagrams, equipment & vehicle tables, talents rules for the pre-generated characters, and much more. Given the clear production quality of everything included and the printing and materials used, I rate the QUALITY at 5-stars, the highest possible score showing us that, once again, Free League Publishing sets in the industry standard in this regard.
Given that this adventure is part of sequence drawing on events in a prior module and sets up events in yet another series of adventures, and the heavy amount of lore that “Destroyer of Worlds” draws on and expands, any review of more material from the scenario book would involve EXTENSIVE spoilers, I have decided (after MUCH thought) not to provide a summary of it here. I can however assure you that this adventure includes many surprises, some of which only the most diehard and well-read “Alien” fans could even begin to anticipate. There is also plenty of content that will be familiar and fit right in with casual fan expectations. As a cinematic adventure, “Story Points” can be earned throughout, rewarding great roleplaying, and can be used to give players an additional way to impact the story. Given all the positive mechanics included as well as the plot elements, I give the CONTENT/STORY 5-Stars, again the maximum possible score.
“Alien The RPG: Destroyer of Worlds” is available (at the time of this review) for about $30.00 USD on the Free League Publishing Store, and when purchased there includes a digital copy as well. Given the price, materials, and expected run-time of three sessions, I give the VALUE of this product 5.0-Stars as well for an overall score of 5-stars as well! This adventure has proved extremely popular in the TTRPG community as well, winning THREE ENNIES in 2021 (Silver in “Best Adventure”, Silver in “Best Cartography”, and Gold in “Best Production Values”). For cinematic play, I highly recommend this adventure.
Footnotes: A free copy of “Alien The RPG: Destroyer of Worlds” was provided by Free League Publishing for the purpose of this review. I used some art “Alien: The Roleplaying Game” core rulebook to enhance this review as very little original art is presented in this product. I am not a Free League Publishing employee or contractor however, and the views expressed in this review are my own. What are your views on “Alien The Roleplaying Game: Destroyer of Worlds”?
