“The Call of Cthulhu” Written by H.P. Lovecraft, and Illustrated by François Baranger
Review By Talia Heart
This review is more of a quick blurb in my eyes. If you’ve read my “At The Mountains of Madness” review you will see many parallels in this version of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu” illustrated by Francois Baranger and published by Free League. The book also has a two-page forward by John Howe. Much like in “At The Mountains of Madness”, this version of “The Call of Cthulhu” features a sort of disclaimer that Free League Publishing does not support any of H.P. Lovecraft’s racist views, and neither do I nor does this website. This book contains a shorter story than “At The Mountains of Madness” so it comes in at 64 pages with less art in total as well. However, the art is again fantastic as you can see for yourself on this page by scrolling down. RAPID RATINGS: CONTENT, 4.0 (it’s shorter & been done by dozens of people in different forms or media at this point, though the art is awesome); QUALITY: This book is huge and printed on quality paper with a strong spine and jacket, so it gets a 5.0 here; VALUE: This book is a definite collector’s item and part of a limited print run and presently available for just under $30.00 USD (as of 2-27-2022) so it’s certainly affordable at 4.5 stars; OVERALL: The numbers give an overall rating of 4.5. This book is a great buy for a collector, a fan of Cthulhu/Lovecraft, or just someone who loves great art or scary stories, so grab a copy while it’s still available!
